AIIMS MSc Nursing Round 1 Seat Allocation 2026: What Next?

Seeing your allotment can bring very different reactions. You may have received your first choice, something lower on your list, or no seat at all.

Before you decide what the result means for you, look at the details carefully. Your allotment is based on your merit and the choices you submitted. It is not decided by rank alone.

Start with your allotment result and check these four things:

• AIIMS institute: Which institute have you been allotted?
• Subject or speciality: Which M.Sc. Nursing subject has been allotted?
• Seat category: Check the category under which your seat has been allocated.
• Your preference: Where did this combination appear in your locked choices?

For AIIMS MSc Nursing, candidates submit choices as a combination of AIIMS institute and subject/specialty. The allocation is then made according to merit and the order of these choices. So, do not look at the institute alone. Your speciality is part of the allotment too.

Your rank is important, but it is not the only factor determining your allotment.

The online seat allocation process works according to merit and the choices submitted by candidates. Seat availability and applicable reservation rules also affect which choice can be allotted.

• AIIMS B + Speciality X

If the first combination is unavailable when your rank is considered, the system moves through your preference order rather than simply assigning you the most popular AIIMS.

What should you do?

Open the choices you submitted and compare them with your allotment.

Ask yourself:

• Was this combination high on my list?
• Did I prefer the speciality or the institute?
• Would I be genuinely happy studying this speciality?
• Is this still a course I want to pursue?

That gives you a much better way to evaluate your result than comparing your allotment with someone else's.

AIIMS states that the choices submitted and locked for the initial seat allocation are carried forward to subsequent rounds. Candidates cannot reorder, edit or replace those choices for Round 2.

So, if you are disappointed because your preferred institute was placed below another option, you cannot simply log in for Round 2 and rearrange the list.

What you can do instead: check the option you were allotted and understand whether you want to retain it while participating in the next round.

Getting an allotment does not mean you can simply wait for the next update.

AIIMS requires an allotted candidate to log in and actively select one of the available options. Candidates can either accept the allotted seat and stop participating in further rounds or accept it while choosing to participate in the second round.

If You Are Happy With Your Allotment

Choose the option that accepts the seat without participating further.

Before doing that:

1. Check the institute.
2. Check the subject or speciality.
3. Read the reporting instructions.
4. Keep your original documents ready.
5. Complete every required admission step within the notified deadline.

If You Want a Better Preference

If you want to participate in the next round, select the option that accepts the current seat while allowing you to participate further.

But remember: wanting an upgrade does not guarantee an upgrade. Any further allotment depends on the applicable merit, your existing locked choices and seat availability.

A common mistake is to focus entirely on the AIIMS name.

For an M.Sc. Nursing student, the subject or speciality is equally important because it is the programm you will actually study.

So before accepting an allotment, check:

• The allotted speciality
• The curriculum or programme information
• Whether it matches your career interests
• The institute where that speciality is being offered

Do not accept or reject a seat simply because another candidate considers one institute more prestigious. Your choice should fit your academic and career plans.

If you receive a seat, do not leave document preparation until the last moment.

Keep your qualifying examination documents, registration-related documents, category certificate if applicable and other documents specified by AIIMS ready.

The important point is to follow the 2026 notification and reporting instructions for your particular admission process. Do not rely on an old checklist copied from another year.

Also save a copy of your allotment result and any acceptance confirmation you submit.

Do not immediately assume that your counselling journey is over.

AIIMS's seat allocation rules state that candidates who were considered in the first round but did not receive a seat can remain eligible for the next round, subject to the applicable rules. Candidates who were eligible but did not register or submit choices for the first round are treated differently.

Your next step: check the specific status shown against your result and the latest AIIMS notification before assuming that you need to apply again.
